The financial consequences of drunk driving

On Behalf of Latrobe Law Associates, LLC | Nov 24, 2017 | dui, Firm News |

We all know that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is never a good idea. Not only is it illegal, but it has the potential to endanger the lives of yourself, your passengers, other people on the road and pedestrians.

Driving under the influence generally has far more cons than pros, and that’s before you even start to consider the vast financial consequences it has the potential to lead to, also.

It’s less expensive to not take the risk

Imagine a situation in which you have had a few drinks and are unsure of whether you are over the legal driving limit. You don’t want to “waste” money on a cab, so you decide to take a risk and drive home instead, only to get pulled over for driving under the influence. The criminal fines that you could face due to this traffic violation could be anywhere from a couple of hundred to several thousand dollars. It’s very likely that the cab fare would have been much cheaper and safer.

Driving restrictions and vehicle confiscation

It is possible to receive driving restrictions or face the confiscation of your vehicle as another consequence of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This can have serious consequences for your personal and professional life: It may mean that you have a difficulty in getting to work or that you have to pay for additional transport in order to get there.

Driving under the influence, as well as being dangerous and illegal, can have serious financial consequences. It is important to understand how to take action once you have been charged with a DUI in order to get your life back on track.
