How to start a massage business

If you have an education in massage therapy, you may want to take your passion to the next level and start your own business. Being a massage therapist can be a lucrative career option, especially because there does not need to be many overhead costs to get it started. If you work remotely at clients' homes, it means that you will not have to rent out a vicinity for your business.

This blog will provide a brief overview on some tips on where to start when opening your massage therapy business.

Make sure that you have the correct certification

It is important that you are licensed in the state to practice massage therapy, especially if you want to be eligible for liability insurance. Becoming licensed usually requires that you have over 500 hours of recognized education. Getting a license usually costs in the region of $300, but it may vary.

Register your company

You should do your research and decide whether it would suit you better to register as a sole proprietor or as a limited liability company. If you are a sole proprietor, you should use your Social Security number for any tax-related issues. However, if you decide to set up a limited liability company, you will need to apply online for an Employer Identification Number from the IRS.

Price competitively

It's crucial to do your research on competitive pricing in your area if you want your business to be successful. Make sure to think of the many income streams you could benefit from. This could vary from selling oils, to discounts for loyal customers.
